Illness Sidelines Cooper, Champions Sign Rookie Pitcher
Ottawa, ON – The OTTAWA CHAMPIONS have signed RHP JARED PRICE to a contract and released RHP ANDREW COOPER.
COOPER, 24, is expected to miss the rest of the season after being admitted to hospital on Sunday due to perimyocarditis brought on by pneumonia.
The Belle River, ON native has been told to rest for at least a month before resuming baseball activities.
He had a 4.58 ERA with 13 strikeouts and eight walks in 17.2 innings pitched over 13 appearances in his second season with Ottawa.
The Champions wish Andrew Cooper all the best in his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back when he’s ready to pitch again.
PRICE, 23, was drafted in the 37th round of the 2017 draft by the Miami Marlins but was released before playing a game.
The Mohnton, PA native played college baseball for the University of Maryland in 2017 where he went 1-0 with a 3.04 ERA in 16 relief appearances, striking out 27 and walking nine in 23.2 innings pitched.
Price made one appearance in the Big 10 tournament, allowing one earned run on five hits over 4.2 innings of relief in an 8-5 win over Nebraska.
