Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Champions bounced back from yesterday's loss to defeat the Trois-Rivieres Aigles 3-2.

The win was an important one for Ottawa as they keep pace with the Sussex County Miners who also won Tuesday night.

"It was a very important game for us to win. We just have to keep the momentum going into tomorrow," said Hal Lanier, the Champions' manager.

Phillippe Aumont (W, 5-7) was the hero for the Champions as he went all nine innings and limited the Aigles to just two earned runs on eight hits.

"I was very pleased with his outing tonight, it was a very solid start," said Lanier on Aumont's performance.

Aumont faced some early pressure from the Aigles. There were three straight singles to kick off the bottom half of the second inning. However, Aumont remained composed and got a pair of fly balls, along with a runner caught stealing to get out of the inning unharmed.

The offence finally clicked for Ottawa after being shutout the night prior but despite that they still had to dig themselves out of an early deficit.

After a pair of RBI's in yesterday's game, Javier Herrera recorded another with an RBI single in the third inning.

The Champions took the lead in the sixth thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from Steve Brown and Tyson Gillies. The inning marked the first time Ottawa had scored in the series to that point.

Then in the eighth, Steve Brown connected for another RBI single, his sixth in the past three games, to gives the Champions a 3-1 lead.

Things got interesting in the ninth as the Aigles scored one and had the game tying run just 90 feet away from scoring. However, Aumont was able to escape with just the one run allowed and secured the victory.

Game three is scheduled for 7:05pm on Wednesday night in Trois-Rivieres. Steve Borkowski (9-7) takes the mound for the Champions.
