Aumont and Hamburger Named All-Star Starters
Ottawa, ON – The 2017 Can-Am League/American Association All-Star Game will feature a pair of former big leaguers going toe-to-toe on the mound when the first pitch is thrown at 7:05 pm on July 25th at RCGT Park.
Gatineau native and former Philadelphia Phillies RHP PHILLIPPE AUMONT has been given the starting assignment by Can-Am League manager Hal Lanier during a season in which he is 3-2 with a 4.52 ERA in 51.2 innings over eight starts with the Ottawa Champions.
“I thought he was the best person to do it, especially having the hometown crowd, I think he deserves it,” says Lanier. “Maybe I’m playing a little favourites, but I should be.”
The highlight of the 2017 season so far for Aumont was a no-hitter he pitched on June 28th against the Dominican Republic where he struck out 11 batters and walked only one.
“It’s going to be special, it’s going to be fun,” says Aumont. “It’s going to actually be all the guys we play against on team against a team of total strangers. We’re going to have a good time.”
Aumont is one of four Ottawa Champions players on the Can-Am League All-Star roster along with fellow RHP Daniel Cordero, C Danny Grauer, and OF Sebastien Boucher.
American Association manager Rick Forney has tabbed current St. Paul Saints ace, and former Texas Rangers RHP MARK HAMBURGER to start for his squad.
The 30-year-old Hamburger is 9-1 with a 3.04 ERA in 12 starts for the Saints this year, his third season in St. Paul between stints in the Rangers, Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, and Minnesota Twins organizations.
