Montville's walk-off blast wins series finale over Champions

2018 August 19

Mike Montville led off the 10th for Rockland, and hit his solo home run on the first pitch of the inning.

OTTAWA – A walk-off home run from OF Mike Montville sent Rockland Boulders fans home happy in the series finale Sunday evening. His solo homer on the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th inning won the game for Rockland 3-2 over the Ottawa Champions.
It was a tight ballgame that saw neither side lead by more than one run from the first pitch.
Ottawa took the lead in the first inning off a base hit from OF Steve Brown that scored DH Sebastien Boucher, but Rockland responded after a lead-off triple from INF Cody Regis in the second inning. OF Rylan Sandoval knocked him home after he put himself 90 feet away from the plate.
The teams exchanged runs, and the score remained tied into the ninth inning. Ottawa had to work out of a sticky scenario in the bottom of the ninth, after Rockland sent runners to the corners with one out.
RHP Danny Carela stuck out a batter, then Ottawa went to LHP Scott Maine to get out of the inning. He intentionally walked INF JC Rodriguez, and then got a fielder’s choice to send the game to extras.
Montville led off the 10th for Rockland, and hit his solo blast on the first pitch of the inning off Maine. The Dardenne Prairie, Mo. native was charged with the loss.
The Champions had RHP Jake Hale on the mound, and the Ottawa pitcher gave his team a chance to win with an impressive three-hitter over seven innings of work. He struck out four and walked three in that span, giving up four runs.
While the team has spent the last week on the road, this road trip isn’t nearly over. Ottawa heads to Quebec to play the Capitales starting Monday, August 20 at 7:05 p.m. The Champions return home on Friday, August 24.
