Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Champions fell in the series finale 14-5 to the New Jersey Jackals on Wednesday night.

It was a tough start for Yean Carlos Gil who had a short outing as he only went four innings. He allowed five earned runs over that span before turning the game over to the bullpen in the fifth.

The game began in an ugly was as Gil allowed four runs on five hits in the first inning. The Jackals rallied to bat around the order and drove in three of their four runs via RBI singles.

After the Jackals tacked on a run in the fifth to make it 5-0, the Champions had a massive inning of their own.

Caceres began to struggle with his control as he issued three walks in the inning and the Champions sent ten batters to the plate. Grauer, Nordgren and Venditti drove in runs to make it 5-3. Then with two runners in scoring position, Sebastien Boucher broke out of his offensive slump and sent a line drive to left field. His single scored both runners and tied the game 5-5.

The Jackals retook the lead in the sixth. Matt Tulley (L, 1-1) was in his second inning of relief and gave up a leadoff single and double before being pulled and replaced by Adam Eggnatz.

A sac fly and RBI groundout platted both runners and gave New Jersey a 7-5 lead.

New Jersey put the game out of reach in the eighth as they connected for their second five-run inning of the game. Followed by a two-run inning in the ninth to make it 14-5.

The Champions will begin a four-game set with the Quebec Capitales on Thursday night. Daniel Cordero (6-4) takes the mound for Ottawa against Karl Gelinas (4-3). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm at RCGT Park.
