Capitales bullpen holds off Champions in 11-4 loss
QUEBEC CITY, QUE. –The Ottawa Champions (35-49) couldn’t hold off the Quebec Capitales (34-50) in an 11-4 defeat Wednesday night at Stade CANAC.
Left-handed Champions starter Danny Garcia pitched six innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks, while striking out eight, and took his fifth loss of the season.
The Capitales opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, and extended their lead to 3-0 with a triple at the end of the second.
The Champions responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run home run rocketed by Steve Brown, ending the inning 4-3 in favour of Quebec.
Right-handed Capitales pitcher Jack Charleston tossed six innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out four, grabbing his third win of the season.
Lefty Evan Rutckyj relieved Garcia in the seventh, allowing two earned runs on three hits, and recording a strikeout. Right-handed reliever Kida De La Cruz stepped out in the bottom of the eighth, pitching one inning, allowing three earned runs on one hit.
Jiandido Tromp went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Brown (1-for-4) drove in his 47thRBI and blasted his sixth home run of 2019.
Ottawa will look to split the three-game road series against the Capitales tomorrow evening in Quebec City. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
