Champions walked off by the Aigles
Trois-Rivieres, QUE – Thomas Roulis hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Trois-Rivieres Aigles (20-17) defeated the Ottawa Champions (17-21) on Friday night at Stade Stereo+.
With international rules in effect, the Aigles started the bottom of the 10th inning with a runner at second in a 2-2 tie. Roulis hit an opposite-field ground ball through the left side off Austin Glorius (Loss, 2-2) that scored Michael Suchy. Ottawa is walked-off for just the second time this season.
Ottawa Champions starter Jared Mortensen allowed just two runs over six innings, striking out five in his seventh start of the season. Joe DeLuca hit a two-run homer off Mortensen in the third inning, giving he Aigles the 2-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Leonardo Reginatto tied the game with a base-hit up the middle, cashing in Andy Mocahbee from second.
Trois-Rivieres Aigles starter Garrett Harris tossed six 2/3 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk, while recording five strikeouts. After he was taken out of the game in the middle of the seventh, their bullpen went onto allow just one hit over four scoreless innings.
Closer Garrett Mundell (Win, 1-0) shutout the Champions offense in the ninth and 10th innings for his first win of the season.
Maikol Gonzalez recorded two of the Champions seven hits in the loss. Relievers Andrew Cooper and Evan Rutckyj combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, helping Ottawa pitching hold Taylor Brennan and Juan Kelly hitless.
The Ottawa Champions will send right-hander Austin Chrismon to the mound tomorrow, as they look to even up the series at one. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m., at Stade Stereo+, and you can catch all the action on CKDJ 107.9 – FM.
