Champions Swing Deal for All-Star Second Baseman

Ottawa, ON – The OTTAWA CHAMPIONS have acquired 2B BRIAN BISTAGNE from the SIOUX CITY EXPLORERS in exchange for future considerations.

BISTAGNE, 29, spent the 2016 season with the Texas AirHogs in the American Association where he batted .285 with eight homeruns and 36 RBI in 98 games, and was named to the South All-Star team.

“He’s a hard-nosed player from what I’ve heard and he’ll help us out at the top of the order,” says Champions manager Hal Lanier. “He’s very solid defensively and plays the game the right way.

Prior to joining the AirHogs the Glendale, CA native played with Sioux City and the Fort Worth Cats in the AA and the Normal CornBelters, Rockford Aviators, and Washington WildThings in the Frontier League.

In his seven year professional career, Bistagne has compiled a lifetime .264 average with 24 homeruns and 190 RBI in 555 games.
