Champions swept by Aigles with 5-3 loss

Trois-Rivieres, Que – The Ottawa Champions (17-23) were swept by the Trois-Rivieres Aigles (22-17) after a 5-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at Stade Stereo+.
All five of the Aigles runs were knocked in on extra-base hits. Alberth Martinez hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Anthony Hermelyn hit his sixth homer of the season, a solo-shot in the sixth inning that put Trois-Rivieres up 5-2.
Champions starter Danny Garcia (2-3) got the loss after allowing five runs and two homers over six innings of work. Andrew Cooper relieved Garcia in the seventh, working two scoreless innings.
Steve Brown went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the loss. The Champions dropped all three games to the Aigles by two runs or less. They are swept for the second time this season.
Aigles starter Brandon Barker (2-1) recorded the win after giving up two runs over six innings of work, striking out six. Tyler Ferguson worked around a Matt Foley lead-off double in the ninth for his first save this season.
The Ottawa Champions are back in action tomorrow at 1:35 p.m., when they host Shikoku Island on Canada Day. Right-hander Jordan Kurokawa will get the start, as the Champions begin a four game series and a seven game homestand.
