Champions Continue Bullpen Overhaul, Sign Canadian Righty

Ottawa, ON – The OTTAWA CHAMPIONS have signed Canadian RHP NOAH GAPP to a contract for the 2017 season and released RHP VICTOR BERIGUETE.

GAPP, 23, made three starts in 2017 for the Edmonton Prospects of the Western Major Baseball League where he was 2-1 with a 2.86 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.

The St. Albert, AB native recently finished his senior season at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY where he had a 10-4 record with a 1.94 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 111.1 innings pitched over 15 starts.

Those numbers earned him recognition as a Daktronics NAIA First Team All-American, as he led the Patriots to their first Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship since 2004.

BERIGUETE, 28, had a 0-4 record and a 5.06 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched in his first season with the Champions.

The Santo Domingo, DR native most recently played for the Normal CornBelters and River City Rascals of the Frontier League in 2015 and was signed by manager Hal Lanier out of a Florida tryout camp in the winter.
