All-Star Home Run Derby Participants Announced

Ottawa, ON – All-Star managers Hal Lanier and Rick Forney have chosen their lineups for the 2017 Home Run Derby, taking place Monday, June 24th at RCGT Park following the Skills Competition.

Quebec Capitales OF KALIAN SAMS, Rockland Boulders 1B JOE MALONEY, Ottawa Champions C DANNY GRAUER, Kansas City T-Bones 1B KEVIN KEYES, Wichita Wingnuts DH MATT CHAVEZ, and Winnipeg Goldeyes OF JOSH ROMANSKI will take aim at Coventry Road in a matchup between the Can-Am League and American Association.

SAMS, 30, leads the Can-Am League in homeruns in 2017 with 21 and had one three game stretch where he hit two grand slams and one three homerun game.

MALONEY, 26, has 50 homeruns in three seasons with the Rockland Boulders, and currently sits second in the Can-Am League with 19.

GRAUER, 24, has six homeruns in his second full season with the Ottawa Champions, and a career total of 12.

KEYES, 28, is batting .303 with 15 homeruns and 45 RBI in his first season with the T-Bones after seven seasons in the Washington Nationals organization.

CHAVEZ, 28, is batting .356 with 14 homeruns and 64 RBI in his second season with Wichita and currently holds the Pacific Association record for homeruns in a season with 31 in 2015.

ROMANSKI, 30, is batting .326 with seven homeruns and 48 RBI in only in his third season as a position player, after four years as a pitcher in the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox organizations.

The three Can-Am League participants will take part in a timed event against three participants from the American Association, with each player getting three minutes to hit as many homeruns as possible.

The top four participants will move on to the semi-finals, and the top two from there will face off for the title.

TSN 1200 hosts Steve Warne and Shawn Simpson will emcee the event and take part in some of the festivities. Media are welcome to attend and be at field level for both the Skills Competition and Home Run Derby.
